Since 2009, I have devoted myself to the art of officiating weddings across California and the Midwest.
I never intended to become a wedding officiant. I became one with one sole purpose; to officiate the wedding of my sister and her fiancé. Even though I was an emotional wreck, nervous and all, trying to enunciate every word and desperately fighting back those sister tears, it still managed to leave me enthralled. What began as a one-time role unexpectedly blossomed into a passionate journey.

How do we get legally married in California?
You and your partner must apply for a marriage license together at a California County Clerk’s office, such as Los Angeles County or Ventura County. Bring valid identification and any documents the county requires. Once you receive your license, it’s typically valid for 90 days. On your wedding day, Maricela will perform your ceremony, and you, your witnesses, and Maricela will sign the license. The signed license is then returned to the county to be officially recorded.
Does Maricela file our marriage license?
In many cases, yes. Maricela can take care of signing and mailing or submitting your license according to your county’s process, so you don’t have to worry about it on your wedding day. In some situations, the couple may be required to return it themselves; Maricela will clearly explain your options based on the issuing county.
What does Maricela need in order to officiate our wedding?
Before your ceremony, you’ll provide your wedding date, time, and location; a copy of your marriage license details once you have it; and any ceremony preferences you have (such as religious tone, readings, or special rituals). Maricela will confirm everything in writing and arrive early on the day of your wedding to review the license and walk you through the signing process.
How many guests can the chapel accommodate?
The on-site chapel is designed for intimate weddings of about 25 guests. There is space for the bride, groom, officiant, small wedding party, and your closest friends and family, along with a cozy reception area for cake, light refreshments, and photos.
Can we bring our own decorations, photographer, or music to the chapel?
Yes. The chapel includes simple, elegant decor and basic seating, but you are welcome to add personal touches such as small floral arrangements, a custom aisle runner, or candles (within safety guidelines). You can bring your own photographer and music playlist; Maricela will coordinate timing so everything flows smoothly.
How long is a typical ceremony?
Most ceremonies last anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes, depending on what you include (readings, vows, rituals, etc.). Simple civil-style ceremonies are shorter, while fully customized ceremonies with personal vows or readings may be a bit longer. Maricela will help you plan the length that feels right for you.
Do you offer bilingual or Spanish ceremonies?
Yes, Maricela can offer ceremonies in English or Spanish, and in many cases a blend of both languages so that your guests feel included. During your consultation, you can discuss your language preferences, and Maricela will adjust the ceremony accordingly.
What areas do you travel to for mobile weddings?
Maricela primarily serves Santa Clarita Valley, Los Angeles County, and Ventura County weddings. She regularly officiates at parks, private homes, event venues, and coastal locations within these areas. Some locations may involve an additional travel fee, which will be discussed upfront.
What are your policies on deposits, rescheduling, or cancellations?
To reserve your wedding date and time, a non-refundable deposit is typically required, with the remaining balance due before your ceremony. If you need to reschedule, Maricela will do her best to accommodate your new date, subject to availability. Full cancellation policies and timelines will be clearly outlined in your service agreement so you know exactly what to expect.
How far in advance should we book?
Weekend dates and popular seasons in Southern California can book quickly, so it’s best to reach out as soon as you have a general timeframe or venue secured. That said, Maricela is also happy to accommodate short-notice weddings and elopements whenever her schedule allows.
